Midnight Samra

Edgware Road Partnership teamed up with Masters Student Farida Alhusseini from Central Saint Martin’s to bring the exhibition Midnight Samra to Edgware Road’s subway Gallery in April 2014.

The exhibition captured thoughts and aspirations shared by communities wishing to see Edgware Road as a more inclusive space, and turned them into visual and audio impression.

Conceived and co-ordinated by Farida, the exhibition was sponsored by Edgware Road Partnership and included photographs, vinyl cut quotes of the workshops, a video showing footage of Edgware Road at night and interviews and sounds from the street remixed to music.

Speaking at the launch of Midnight Samra Farida explained: “A Samra is a fun gathering, a celebration which takes place at night and this exhibition is all about helping all members of the community enjoy their neighbourhood throughout the day and into the evening without feeling intimidation. It was great to work alongside the women from the Mosaic Community Trust to produce this fantastic artwork; I hope it is the start of an exciting time for this part of London.”
